Circular to Physiotherapists who wish to Obtain
Employment in South Africa
Registration of Physiotherapists
All practising physiotherapists in South Africa
are required by law to register with the Health Profession Council of South
Africa, the registering body for physiotherapists being the Professional Board
for Physiotherapy. Application forms may be obtained from the Registrar,
Professional Board for Physiotherapy, Health Profession Council of South
Africa, P.O. Box 205, Pretoria, 0001. Telephone 27-12-328-6680
A copy of your medical certificate of
qualification, certified by a public notary, will be required together with an
official translation if necessary, details of training e.g. Hours of clinical
experience etc. are essential.
Applications accepted for registration may be
accorded full or limited registration. Applications receiving limited
registration are required to work at a specified institution where supervision
is available. After a minimum of two years, candidates may undergo an
examination which entitles them to full registration if they pass.
Work Permit
A work permit is required to work in South
Africa. You may apply for one at your nearest South African Consulate or
Embassy. You can only obtain a work permit if you have applied for and obtained
a definite offer of a post in the country before your arrival. A work permit is
issued for a minimum of six months, and must be renewed six monthly. After
approximately 2 years permanent residence status will be required. For full

OFFICIAL ORGANISATION
The official Organisation is the South African
Society of Physiotherapy, whose headquarters are in Johannesburg with branches
in all the provinces. On arrival in the Country, application for membership of
